FIU | Institute of Environment
FIU's Institute of Environment represents one of the largest and most impactful environmental research programs in the world. We are taking the uncertainty out of long-term sustainability. A comprehensive solutions center, we are dedicated to combating environmental crises that devastate ecosystems, disrupt communities and destroy natural resources.
In collaboration with local and international partners, our efforts have led to expanded protections for endangered species; improved sanitation and access to clean water; increased community resilience across the globe; and adaptive management of terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine resources. We are addressing both current and unprecedented future threats of environmental change, providing data-driven solutions to society's greatest and most urgent challenges.
The Institute of Environment includes our Sea Level Solutions Center, where we develop useful and continuing sea level and other climate change-related responses while collaborating with people on the ground to meet real-time needs and provide support. We're designed to meet the needs of Miami-Dade County and South Florida low-elevation urban coastal communities and comparable locations in the context of inevitable sea level rise. The Sea Level Solutions Center provides a toolkit for everyone – scientists, educators, city planners, businesses, citizens – looking for the latest information on sea level rise and how it will impact our communities. We bring knowledge and expertise together from a wide range of disciplines to provide information and education to diverse audiences, in a way that is accessible, relevant and applicable.
