Founded in 1975, NOVA is a 501(c)(3) membership organization comprised of victim assistance professionals committed to ensuring quality victim services and upholding the rights of all victims/survivors in our society. NOVA aspires to the highest goals and ethical standards, continuing to identify new ways to empower and support victims of crime and crisis.

A leader in the Victims’ Rights Movement, NOVA is the oldest national victim assistance organization of its kind and it remains on the cutting edge of best practices in victim services and crisis response efforts. NOVA promotes, advances and enforces fundamental rights for all victims in federal, state, juvenile, and tribal justice systems, as well as, in military and campus administrative hearings.

Professionalizing and Elevating Victim Services

NOVA proudly promotes the professionalization of victim advocacy by serving as the Secretariat for the Department of Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) and the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP)®.

NOVA’s National Advocacy Leadership Center (NALC) is designed to promote and ensure standardized, quality care in the victim assistance field, we offer:

Free monthly webinars to NOVA Premier Members
Career development and networking opportunities for victim advocates
Basic and Advanced live distance learning academies, including the NOVA Victim Assistance Academy (NVAA), NOVA Campus Advocacy Training (NCAT) and the Sex Trafficking Advanced Victim Assistance Training (STAVAT)

NOVA’s Customized Victim Assistance Training and Technical Assistance help corporations, communities and agencies develop innovative approaches, policies and trainings to expand and enhance support for victims and survivors of crime. NOVA’s Customized TTA Services include:

- 1- or 2-day Crisis Response and Victim Support Training
- 40-Hour Introductory Victim Assistance Training, pre-approved by NACP®
- Dynamic Webinar Trainings on Emerging Trends and Best Practices in Victim Assistance
- One-on-One Technical Assistance, Coaching and Mentorship

Responding to Crisis

NOVA’s Crisis Response Team (CRT) TrainingTM Program has over thirty years of evidence-based and field-tested best practices as a crisis management utility. NOVA Crisis Response Teams are thoroughly trained to provide trauma mitigation, education and emotional first aid in the aftermath of a critical incident. With over ten thousand NOVA-trained Crisis Responders, NOVA’s CRT TrainingTM is an effective tool that can be instantly scaled-up for mass-casualty critical incidents.

NOVA CRT services can be requested in the wake of crisis and CRT trainings are provided throughout the year across the United States and abroad.

NOVA’s highlight of the year is the Annual Training Event, an inspiring 4 days of workshops, keynote speeches, networking and more.
